Post-production in my opinion is the hardest part of the whole production, in almost every film.
It takes a lot of time, and there is always a moment when an editor has to try to fix certain parts that should have happened in the actual production in the first place. It is what makes the product come to life and my advice to all the editors out there is to not procrastinate after the shoot. It feels so good to relax for a couple of days after the shoot but in my experience, the sooner one starts their edit, the better the quality. This is because, when one starts their edit, they have added work pressure than they first realized.
There will always be something wrong that they have to figure a way round, there are many decisions to be made such as mood, tone, color, sound, dialogues, and last but not least one always needs to be finished a few days before the deadline to check with the producer and director to see if it is all alright. All of these will take up a lot of time. One needs to prioritize their time in a way that they work productively but also have time to relax. There is nothing worse than an exhausted editor, as the quality of the product will surely decrease.
